Moral Focus Gradebook

As agreed upon in our Hall Meeting every student would receive a weekly grade in each of the following categories: Virtue and Work Management.

Under "Work Management" we are focusing on the following topics:
  • Follow classroom rules and routines: 4.0 grading opportunity
  • Maintain an organized work space: 3.0 grading opportunity
  • Complete assignment on time: 3.0 grading opportunity
Here is the procedure for "follow classroom rules and routines"
1.   Every student starts at a 3.0
2.   Mark down on the student grid every time a student flips his/her card throughout the week.
3.   Every card flip is a half point deduction (Example- 3.0 would go down to a 2.5 if the student flips their card one time)
4.   If a student completes two weeks without flipping a card they can earn a 3.5, if they complete 3 weeks without flipping a card they can earn a 4.0.
5.   After the initial the 3 weeks, a student can maintain a 4.0 if they continue to NOT flip their card.
Please let me know if you have any questions
and
THANK YOU, Nikki for typing out the procedure for "following classroom rules and routines!!!!!

Moral Focus Virtues

Don't forget to incorporate Moral Focus virtues weekly. It can be bell work, May Do, last 15 minutes of the day, etc...

During the 5th grade team meeting I noticed Dena’s Moral Focus wall. I was impressed. Please read below for her explanation of how she integrates Moral Focus weekly!

As I travel for 03s and Team Meetings, I will be on the lookout for more amazing ideas of teaching and learning at its best! You might be next! :)

"My affirmation wall is focused around NHA's monthly Moral Focus virtues.  My students draw a stick of another peer in the classroom and write an affirmation specific to that virtue on a printable template that I provide.  For example, this past Friday students were writing affirmations to other peers highlighting specific examples of how that individual has demonstrated "Wisdom".  Students may not comment on wisdom shown at specials, recess, or lunch.  Affirmations are meant to highlight the greatest of work ethics, performance, etc. within the classroom.  When completed, students cut the template out, I hang them on my affirmation wall, and students get excited to read their messages."

"I have implemented affirmations for many years now at South Arbor, and it is a great way to encourage students to recognize others strengths and positive qualities of one another.  I believe this is also a great way to incorporate positive behavior reinforcement.  The kids truly enjoy writing, reading, and receiving them.  I love seeing the smiles on their faces:)"

A little something...

Please stop by my office in the morning before school starts for a special treat. I will be there by 6:45a.m.
*Hint: I have something for both the vegetarians and the non-vegetarians

Brag Board

In your mailboxes I put the brag board parent notes and pencil templates which need to go home with every student by this Friday the 7th! I counted them all out by hand, so human-error could be at risk. If you need extras let me know and if you have any questions, ask!
Once the students return them please put them in my mailbox. Turn them in as you receive them, even if it’s one student at a time! I am eager to get the bulletin board started.J
Below is a copy of the parent note in case you want to include it in your weekly newsletter. Thank you for your help. I cannot wait to read them all!
