Thankful

As we approach Thanksgiving this year, I am feeling thankful for all of the staff that make South Arbor so special! I feel privileged to be able to come to work each and every day and see teachers and support staff working with students to help each child reach their own individual potential. The growth mindset is evident all around the school.

Most importantly, I am thankful for the relationships that I have established with each of you. I look forward to every O3 because that’s the time that I get to spend getting to know you better both professionally and personally. Thank you for being a team that embraces change, hard work, and personal relationships. Please join me in “giving thanks” and take a moment to thank the many people who make South Arbor such a wonderful place to work!

I hope you enjoy this time with family, friends, and good eats! I am looking forward to eating turkey and macaroni and cheese; two of my Thanksgiving favorites! :)

Student Attendance

I need your help monitoring student absences, unexcused and excused.

Please note, according to our handbook that after two unexcused absences, the teacher contacts the parent by phone, email, or in person. In addition, after five unexcused absences the teacher will contact the parent/guardian again to discuss the causes of truancies and offer suggestions for improvement.
If a student should reach five excused absences, you will need to reach out to the parents as well.
Make sure to inform me of all contacts (e.g. ‘cc” me on the email), for documentation purposes in case the absences escalates to an A-CAP or a referral to Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office where documentation is needed.
Thank you for your assistance with reminding parents that minimizing absences to only those that are absolutely necessary will have a positive effect on achievement.

Possible Retention Students

During your O3, please provide me with a list of students that you might consider as a possible retention candidate.  According to our IAT handbook, we have three specific dates that you need to communicate this information to parents. The first one needs to occur before Winter Break, preferably at our upcoming conferences in November.

Please begin to gather any evidence that you may have to support this potential decision. I know it’s early, but remember that this decision is not final until later in the school year.
